Taylor Swift -Her 10 Greatest Hits

Taylor Swift has come a long way since her 2006 debut single  Tim McGraw.  Over 30 million records sold and seven Grammy Awards to be precise. On the eve of the much anticipated release of fifth album 1989 , Swift has established herself as music royalty. From cute country singer to all conquering pop princess.
At the tender age of 23 , Taylor Swift has already delivered an impressive back catalogue of signature hits and torch songs. So here I count down what her 10 Greatest Hits really are from the past 8 years of chart dominance.

As this is based on singles only , unfortunately there is no room for personal and fan favourites such as Enchanted , All Too Well , Ronan , Last Kiss , State Of Grace , or Breathe.

So from 10 to 1 , The Playlist presents Taylor Swift's 10 Greatest Hits from 2006 right up to 2014

10. White Horse ( 2008 )

This gem nabbed Swift a Grammy for Best Country Song in 2009. A stereotypical yet beautiful portrait of heartbreak as Swift discovers there is no white knight upon a white horse to rescue her. It is quintessential Swift looking as always for that elusive fairytale ending. One of her most beautiful ballads , it is a highlight of the Fearless album.

9.  Safe And Sound featuring The Civil Wars ( 2012 )

Written with the legendary T-Bone Burnett and country folk duo The Civil Wars , Safe And Sound was written for blockbuster movie The Hunger Games.  It was a perfect fit , a brooding country ballad that closed out the film itself. Swift's vocals are  breathy and eerie adding to the tracks gorgeous melancholic feel. Critically acclaimed as it was , Safe And Sound may be amongst Swift's most underrated tracks.

8. Ours ( 2011 )

The final single that was lifted from Speak Now , Ours is another delicately gorgeous Swift ballad. Sure there were stronger songs on that album that could have made perfect singles such as the mighty Enchanted.
But over time , it remains one of Swift's best ballads

7.  Red  (2013 )

The title track from her fourth album , Red sees Swift compare the intense emotions of love to the colour red. The result is a delicious country pop /rock hybrid that saw Swift delve further towards pop leanings whist retaining her country roots.

6.  Back To December (2010 )

One of Swift's finest moments , this stunning ballad from Speak Now is a heartfelt apology to an ex lover. believed to be Twilight actor Taylor Lautner.
Vulnerable vocals from Swift sync beautifully with the songs themes of reconciliation and regret. Perhaps her best lyrical execution in a ballad.

5.  We are Never Ever Getting Back Together (2012 )

Her first all out pop belter resulted in Swift's first US Billboard Hot 100 Number 1.  Produced by pop titans Max Martin and Shellback , this was Swift finally becoming the pop force she was always destined to be. It was a worldwide smash that placed Swift as a new force in pop and mix it up with Katy , Gaga and Pink. It gave her the mainstream success in territories where she was on the cusp of greatness but this elevated her star to new , globe conquering heights.
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together was a glorious turning point for Swift as an artist.

4. Mean  (2011 )

Mean was penned by Swift as a response to those who criticize all she does. It's defiant chorus of ' someday I'll be living in a big ol city , and all you're ever gonna be is mean '.
It scooped another two Grammys for Swift. And how right she was as she now resides in the ultimate big ole city of New York.
The song is undeniably country with its banjo and guitar twangs and handclaps. A genuine highlight of Speak Now ,  Swift served up a two fingers to her critics in effortlessly melodic style.

3. I Knew You Were Trouble (2012 )

If We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together was but a mere dipped toe in the pool of pop , then follow up I Knew You Were Trouble was a full blown somersault. Again helmed by Max Martin and Shellback , the nod to dubstep was irresistible. A career defining song that would ultimately bring us to 1989.

2. Love Story (2009 )

Love Story was Swift's first major international hit. And remains her ultimate fairytale love song as she memorably delivers 'You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess '
Country met Shakespeare with commercial and critical success. It was her first UK Top 10 and her biggest US hit at the time.

1. You Belong With Me  (2009)

The accompanying video saw Swift become the first country artist to ever scoop an MTV Video Music Award. Kanye West stormed the stage and the rest is popculture history. This is ranked as Swift's greatest hit , simply because seven years later , it remains a damn good pop song.
It has all the ingredients of a classic Taylor Swift song. Unrequited love , the female nemesis , the boy next door , twangy guitars , and a chorus as contagious as Ebola.

Aint no party like an SClub party -The return of S Club 7

" Tina's doing her dance. Jon's looking for romance.  Paul's getting down on the floor. While Hannah's screaming out for more. Wanna see Bradley swing. Wanna see Rachel do her thing. Then we got Jo , she got the flow. Get ready everybody cos here we go "

In the late 90's/early Noughties , there really was no party , like an S Club party. And now 11 years after they split , S Club 7 have finally reformed.
The full line up of Rachel Stevens ,Hannah Spearittt , Tina Barrett , Jo O'Meara , Paul Cattermole , Bradley McIntosh and Jon Lee will come together for a spectacular greatest hits medley for BBC Children In Need on Friday November 14th. It'll be their first TV performance in over a decade.

"We're really looking forward to bringing it all back for Pudsey, for BBC Children In Need and for all our fans who have been so great over the years. This is going to be the mega S Club party of all time!"

S Club 7 formed in 1998 , the brainchild of pop mogul and man behind the Spice Girls , Simon Fuller.
Their first TV show Miami 7 was a huge hit and their subsequent debut single Bring It All Back stormed to Number 1 in June 1999 beating both Madonna and Britney Spears to the top spot.
After 4 studio albums  , 11  singles including pop classics such as Reach , Don't stop Movin , Two In a Million , Never Had A Dream Come True  and S Club Party ,  10 million albums , 2 BRIT Awards , their own movie Seeing Double and a host of TV shows.
SClub 7 disbanded in April 2003 , their own movie Seeing Double and farewell single Say Goodbye providing the swansong for five years of success.

The intervening years saw all seven members meet with mixed fortunes in their own careers. Rachel Stevens had a memorable but brief solo career with hits such as Sweet Dreams ( My LA Ex ) and Some Girls.
Hannah Spearitt found success in ITV dinosaur drama Primeval. Jo O'Meara endured a controversial stay in the Celebrity Big Brother house in January 2007.  She was at the centre of a racism storm with the late reality TV star Jade Goody towards fellow housemate Bollywood star , Shilpa Shetty.  Having already suffered a flop solo career , O'Meara ducked out of the limelight after leaving the house. She was said to have suffered anxiety and depression as a result of the controversy.
The other members also faded into obscurity having failed to emulate their success with S Club 7.

Now eleven years on , it's time to reach for the stars again and bring it all back. SClub 7 are back

Swift "Out Of The Woods " on new track

Taylor Swift has released Out Of The Woods , the latest sample from forthcoming fifth album 1989. Swift described the new track as being about the "fragility and breakable nature of some relationhips "

The haunting track incorporates the 80's influence that runs throughout her entire new record. Whilst also demonstrating a newfound confidence and maturity to Swift's storytelling style of songwriting. It's dark amd brooding and bodes extremely well for her first all out pop album.
The pop throne is Swift's for the taken if it hasn't already been hers.  And when the album drops Stateside on October 28th , expect 1989 to easily smash the 1million sale mark that week.

Tough Love but gentle sounds on Ware's new album

REVIEW: Jessie Ware -Tough Love

South London chanteuse Jessie Ware was the toast of the tastemakers when she dropped the 90's insipred soul of debut album Devotion back in 2012. Despite the album going Top 10 , Ware criminally failed to score a Top 40 hit.
However the album would go on to see Ware nominated for both the Mercury Music Prize and a Brit Award.

Two years on , she has broken her chart duck with the title track and the Ed Sheeran penned Say You Love Me , both denting the Top 40 in the past two months.
Tough Love is an enchanting opener , chilled beats and Ware's soft soothing vocal. You And I (Forever ) delivers a hypnotic chorus , one of the album's highlights.
After the brooding Cruel comes Ware's most commercial offering yet. Penned by ubiquitous album shifter Ed Sheeran , Say You Love Me is a stunningly gorgeous offering that in an ideal world would have provided her with a moment of Adele and indeed Sheeran levels of chart dominance. Ware's vulnerability shines over a delicate vocal. You'll be hard pressed to hear a more emotive love song this year.

Tough Love feels like a late night , bedroom record. This is most in evidence on the playful , sexy and shimmering Kind Of..Sometimes...Maybe.
The album gathers more pace with Want Your Feeling and Pieces. But its the albums penultimate track Champagne Kisses that provides the stunning highlight. The 80's inspired , Sade-esque jam written by US R&B heavyweight Miguel is pure bliss.

On Tough Love , Ware delivers a late night , soul pop  masterclass that deserves to see her earn Sande and Faith levels of ubiquity.
