After releasing his visual album Endless to iTunes yesterday , Frank Ocean has premiered the astonishing new video for Nikes.
The track which is expected to be featured on the still to come official follow up album to channel ORANGE. And it's already one of the most talked about videos of the year thus far. His first in over four years.
The stunning visual features a naked woman atop a white horse , a rapping chihuahua , a poignant tribute to slain Trayvon Martin and self immolation. The track itself is in keeping with Ocean's "two versions theme " with the first portion of Nikes a sped up vocal. before halfway through , we hear that silky smooth voice that has millions salivating his nest album. Ocean sings " Were not in love but I make love to you ,/When you're not here, I save some for you / I'm not him but I mean something to you "
That couplet alone is as achingly brutal about love as we've come to expect from the man who broke my heart on Bad Religion. The greatest song about unrequited love this century.
With Ocean , as always , details are sketchy and mysterious. But if Nikes is the opening salvo to that "proper " follow up album , it could very well be worth the wait.
