Sounding like a glorious pastiche of 90's dance, Hideaway was one of the sounds of this summer. It's video one of the most memorable. Kiesza hit the top of the charts in April with this dance belter. Whether she'll ever match it , remains to be seen. But it remains one of the definitive anthems of the year.

Sirens remains one of pop's most moving and underrated gems of 2014

13. Say Something - A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera

Ignore its X Factor audition ubiquity , for Say Something was quite simply one of the songs of the year. Christina Aguilera gave her most emotional and restrained vocal in years on one of the most moving songs of the year. It pulled at every heartstring and should duly be rewarded at the forthcoming Grammys. Gorgeous and haunting , Say Something was one of pop's finest ballads in years.

12.  Into The Blue - Kylie Minogue

Kylie had mixed fortunes this year with an underwhelming album and singles that missed the mark. But Into The Blue deserved way better. It was a sophisticated yet still carefree pop bangr of the sort La Minogue excels in. The orchestral strings , the repetitive drumbeat , the euphoric empowering chorus. It lit up a murky March with pop panache.

9.  Say You Love Me - Jessie Ware

One of the years biggest anthems , this was the track that saw Smith conquer America as well as millions of hearts. A tale of a one night stand never sounded so stunning or soaring.

1.  Chandelier -Sia

'I'm gonna swing from the chandelier , from the chandelier , I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist , like it doesn't exist ,'

Was there a more memorable pop chorus in 2014 than the mighty Chandelier. The Aussie singer who had penned the likes of Diamonds for Rihanna , now had a worldwide smash under her own name. The song was huge , its chorus humongous. The acompanying video was one of the years best. The song itself , easily the best  of 2014
