Coldplay and The Chainsmokers team up on new single

The Chainsmokers and Coldplay have teamed up in one of the years most surprising collaborations. The duos took to the BRIT Awards in London last night for the first performance of Something Just Like This. And after repeated listen , this strangest of musical bedfellows works extremely well.

It looks et to give The Chainsmokers another massive worldwide smash ahead of the release of their debut album Memories...Do Not Open.

Alex Pall and Drew Taggart have had enormous success in the past year with the worldwide success of Closer alongside Halsey. Last week they won their first Grammy for the summer smash Don't Let Me Down featuring Daya.

BRITS 2017 - Bowie scoops double at muted ceremony

2016 wasn't exactly a vintage year. And last nights BRIT Awards demonstrated that in a remarkably restrained and underwhelming ceremony.

The late David Bowie proved to be the biggest winner of the night with deserved wins for MasterCard British Album Of The Year which was presented by Noel Gallagher. The former Oasis guitarist was clearly not turning up to hand a gomg to The 1975 so his appearance was a mild surprise. Bowie also won Best British Male.

Rising star Rag N Bone Man also had a memorable night winning Critics Choice and Best British Breakthrough after his debut album Human tallied the highest first week sales of a debut album this decade.
Elsewhere , there were wins for The 1975 who picked up the Best British Group and performed a bouncy version of hit single The Sound. The performance confused many viewers at home with its running commentary on screen critiscising the group .

Little Mix opened the ceremony in spectacular style with Shout Out To My Ex , which would later win Best British Single. Its the girls first and overdue BRITS win
The other big pop performanc eof the night came from Katy Perry with new single Chained To The Rhythm. The US star performed amongst a sea of white houses and larger than life puppets thought to be based on Donald Trump and Theresa May.

Its hard to take Perry's 'purposeful pop ' seriously. This is the same woman who mocked Britney Spears mental breakdown on the red carpet at last weeks Grammys. And a performer whose image has been that of a carefully controlled cartoon character who once squirted cream from her breasts in the California Gurls video.

The tribute to the late George Michael was one of the nights high points. Andrew Ridgeley his Wham bandmate , accompanied by Pepsi and Shirley gave an emotional speech about the much missed pop legend.
Chris Martin of Coldplay then appeared to perform a moving version of A Different Corner , with interspersed verses from Michael himself.

Martin re-appeared later for a much hyped collaboration with US dance pop duo The Chainsmokers.

Elsewhere , other winners included One Direction who won Best British Artist Video despite splitting in 2015 , making a complete mockery of the fan voted category.
Adele once again won Best Global Success , as her BRITS wins edges towards double figures.

The show was closed by Robbie Williams who gave a by the numbers performance of tracks from his current album The Heavy Entertainment Show. Ironic , as this was a  ceremony that was light on anything entertaining. Hosts Dermot O'Leary and Emma Willis gave an polished if uncharismatic performance as hosts. But still far more likable than James Cordens sycophancy of ceremonies past.

Katy Perry challenges conformity in Chained To The Rhythm video

Say what you want about Katy Perry. But almost a decade into her career , nobody else does a great pop visual like the Firework singer. This continues with the premiere of Chained To The Rhythm.

Perry finds herself immersed in the day glo sheen of the Oblivi amusement park , surrounded by Stepford Wives-esque characters ambling from one high thrill ride to the next. The video clearly takes inspiration from the songs Sia and max Martin penned lyrics.

Ignorance is bliss for Perry and her fellow park goers living in their bubble , unaware of their conformity. Its only when Perry peicks her finger on a rose thorn and her collaborator Skip Marley makes an appearance in 3D , that Katy begins to snap out of her bubble.

Its another video triumph to add to Perry's long list of visual classics like Waking Up In Vegas , .E.T , Last Friday Night and Firework.

Perry releases her long awaited follow up to 2013's PRISM later this year. She performs tomorrow night at the BRIT Awards.

Gaga premieres bawdy and chaotic John Wayne video

Lady Gaga has capped off a triumphant week with the premiere of new video John Wayne. Hot on the heels of her SuperBowl HalfTime showstopping performance and the announcement of her Joanne World Tour starting in August.

John Wayne , her third video collaboration with the legendary Jonas Akerlund is a riotous return to visual form. Following the stripped down videos for Perfect Illusion and Million Reasons , John Wayne is a bawdy and neon dripped riot.

Quite possibly Gaga's best video since 2011's Born This Way era , the video sees her ride horseback , involved in car chases and ends with Gaga shooting bullets from her high heels.

GagaBowl - Gaga slays SuperBowl with iconic performance

Lady Gaga stormed the Pepsi HalfTime Show at last nights SuperBowl in Houston's packed NRG Stadium.
The singer performed a showstopping , high octane set full of her trademark hits , powerhouse vocals and blistering choreography. It was a career defining performance that will silence critics and re-establish the star as an indomitable and beloved pop force.

Gaga began the 13 minute set atop the NRG Stadium to sing a medley of  God Save America and This Land Is Your Land. The latter has become a political protest anthem in the wake of Donald Trumps inauguration.
With that , Gaga dove headfirst from the stadium into a darkened stadium on a high rise wire before settling atop a constructed performance tower.  Precded by brief snippets of Dance In The Dark , The Edge Of Glory and Paparazzi. Gaga launched into a barnstorming rendition of 2009's break out classic Pokerface to a rapturous reception.

This was followed by 2011's equality anthem Born This Way. The choreography and vocals were vintage Gaga. She then launched into Telephone , her 2010 smash with Beyoncé. It was fun , frenetic and even saw Gaga whip out her much missed disco stick.

Gone was the stripped down acoustics and bar room grittiness of the recent Joanne era. This was the Lady Gaga we fell for in 2009. And the nostalgia was ramped up further with a bouncy version of her debut smash Just Dance. Eight years on from when it topped charts worldwide.

Gaga slowed down the pace with recent single , the torch song fragility of Million Reasons. Easily , Gaga's greatest ballad and her greatest hit that never was. Gaga was in full voice amidst candles and lanterns. It was a glorious moment. she took to the crowd below and embraced a fan.

The set ended with her biggest hit , the now legendary Bad Romance. It capped off a incredible performance which reminded us all why Gaga is one of the greatest popstars on the planet. It wa selectric from start to finish with a brilliantly judged setlist. And singer whose passion and pizazz captivated almost a billion people globally.

Joanne may have been ignored commercially , despite it being one of her best albums. But last nights HalfTime show will only remind the public of the magic that Gaga can whip up and a back catalogue that belies her young years.
As expected most of that back catalogue is now re-entering iTunes charts worldwide following the universally acclaimed performance.
Gaga proved to be every bit as thrilling as past performances from Michael Jackson , U2, Beyoncé , Bruce Springsteen and Prince.

With a new tour scheduled for this Autumn and rumours of an impending sixth studio album , Lady Gaga may very well be ready to reclaim her throne as pop's first Lady
