The track harks back to Like A Prayer . courtesy of the London Community Gospel Choir , with is uplifting and euphoric gospel backing. The piano is thought to be played by Alicia Keys , and the track has a very 90's feel to it.

James Leon 'Loves The Music ' on sparkling new remix

You may remember we featured London synth pop star James Leon in March last year as someone to keep an eye and ear out for. James had independently released the album Never Been Cool , and had since been working on follow up material.
I was lucky to hear one of his current tracks , the fantastically carefree , clubby pop of I Love The Music ( The First Night )

The song in its original form is insanely catchy , enhanced by James' Erasure-esque vocals. It's an illuminous electro pop stomper that should rightly soundtrack any wild night from Soho to Southampton and beyond. A weekend anthem that will indeed make you love the music.

Now the track has been remixed by up and coming Mancunian Petey James. Petey , by the way , is another new name keep a look out for . The results of the remix are glorious to say the least. The already hedonistic electro pop has been enhanced by Balearic beats , and takes the essence of the song which James describes as "feeling free and thinking fuck it " and adds current EDM leanings and clubland nuance, notching the illuminous pop up another million paces. As one of Petey James first official remixes , its a triumph. Truly the sound of a packed and happy 2am dancefloor.
And fuck it , it pretty damn well works. It's just gloriously catchy , polished yet unapologetically carefree electro pop.
If it doesn't make you wanna knock back another shot and dance , then you are either sedated or deaf.
The remix should be available on iTunes in the New Year.

But for now , head on over to James Leons,  official Soundcloud to hear the track in full and give it your undivided attention. Sure do it now.

We'll have more on the very exciting remix bundle James has in store in the New Year. And hopefully more from Petey James.

And while you're at it , check out his album Never Been Cool on iTunes and Amazon

Madonna album leaks online as 11 new demos surface

Madonna's forthcoming 13th studio album has leaked online. Eleven demos as well as the previously leaked Rebel Heart and Wash All Over Me leaked online today under the working title Iconic.
The new tracks have appeared on file sharing sites and on YouTube.
Madonna's new album , which is pencilled in for release in 2015 was understood to be still being recorded. Swedish superstar DJ Avicii , Natalia Kills , Diplo and Ryan Tedder have all worked on the album throughout most of 2014.

The tracklisting of the tentatively titled Iconic looks like this
Addicted ( The One That Got Away )
Bitch , I'm Madonna
Borrowed Time
Heartbreak City
Illuminati
Joan of Arc
Living For Love (Carry On )
Make the Devil Pray
Messiah
Rebel Heart (feat. Avicii )
Revolution
Unapologetic Bitch (feat Nicki Minaj )
Wash All Over Me (feat Avicii )

I've decided to avoid the leaks , as unwrapping a new Madonna album is a rare musical experience that needs to be treasured. The online response from various music forums however , does seem to be positive. There are no clues as to who leaked the demos or how they surfaced. And no new information as to how this leak will affect the proper release of the new album.

Madonna has taken to her Instagram to respond -"Thank you for not listening! Thank you for your loyalty! Thank you for waiting and if you have heard please know they are unfinished demos stolen long ago and not ready to be presented to the world"
"This is artistic rape!! These are early leaked demo's half of which wont even make it on my album the other half have changed and evolved. This is a form of terrorism. Wtf!!!! Why do people want to destroy artistic process??? Why steal? Why not give me the opportunity to finish and give you my very best?"

You can bet that Madonna will ensure heads will roll over this leak. The internet as we have seen when it comes to how we listen and purchase music has been equally a blessing and curse. In this instance , it's a genuine shame. Madonna is one of the last artists whose album releases over a career spanning 30 years , still manage to generate mass hype and interest.
The cynical amongst us will assume the leak is a Madonna made publicity stunt. But that seems wholly unlikely given the effort and devotion she has poured into this particular artistic endeavour. If you want to find and listen to the leak in full , no doubt you will probably find it.
But some things are worth waiting for. Regardless of this leak , Madonna will still very much bounce back as only she can in 2015. And be the unapologetic bitch , we all know and love.

20.  Shake It Off - Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift came , saw and truly conquered the pop throne this year. 1989 was a triumph of pop hooks and infectious choruses. Shake It Off was her most blatant and unapologetic pop moment to date.

19.  Waiting Game -BANKS

Canadian alt-soul singer BANKS should have really had more commercial success with the beautiful Goddess.
Waiting Game was an enticing , brooding tour de force, that justified all the hype.

18.  Solo Dancing -Indiana

Nottingham's Lauren Benson aka Indiana , delivered one of the most underrated and intriguing pop gems this year in Solo Dancing. The sort of sexy , breathless pop Kylie would have killed for. One to watch in 2015

17.  Stay High - Tove Lo

Tove Lo had one of the most recognisable hits of early summer with this ode to hedonism. She also conquered Anerica with the biggest chart placing by a Swedish act in almost 20 years.

16.  Hideaway -Kiesza

Sounding like a glorious pastiche of 90's dance, Hideaway was one of the sounds of this summer. It's video one of the most memorable. Kiesza hit the top of the charts in April with this dance belter. Whether she'll ever match it , remains to be seen. But it remains one of the definitive anthems of the year.

15.  Budapest -George Ezra

Who knew a song named after a Central European capital city would sound so damn good. Ezra was one of the break out stars of 2014 with debut album Wanted On Voyage.
Budapest was inescapable , a soaring , breezy pop strum that sounded glorious at the height of the summer.

14.  Sirens - Cher Lloyd

The X Factor alumni has come a long way since the irritating Swagger Jagger topped the charts in 2011. She's matured from a pop brat into a married woman who delivered one of the most overlooked songs of the year. Sirens was an incredible emotive ballad , that showcased Lloyd's softer side to stunning effect. Indeed , Lloyd deserved better with latest album Sorry I;m Late.
Sirens remains one of pop's most moving and underrated gems of 2014

13. Say Something - A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera

Ignore its X Factor audition ubiquity , for Say Something was quite simply one of the songs of the year. Christina Aguilera gave her most emotional and restrained vocal in years on one of the most moving songs of the year. It pulled at every heartstring and should duly be rewarded at the forthcoming Grammys. Gorgeous and haunting , Say Something was one of pop's finest ballads in years.

12.  Into The Blue - Kylie Minogue

Kylie had mixed fortunes this year with an underwhelming album and singles that missed the mark. But Into The Blue deserved way better. It was a sophisticated yet still carefree pop bangr of the sort La Minogue excels in. The orchestral strings , the repetitive drumbeat , the euphoric empowering chorus. It lit up a murky March with pop panache.

11. Crying For No Reason - Katy B

Katy B got a chance to showcase her vocals on this stunning synth pop ballad that really saw the club kid come of age.
Her frail , heartfelt delivery and the pulsating beat made Crying For No Reason a pop triumph

10.  Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran

Love him or hate him , Ed Sheeran owned 2014 with his massive X album. Thinking Out Loud was an instant classic ,  a song that will soundtrack weddings for decades to come. It was just a simple and gorgeous song that like most of Sheeran's work , made a real conection to the many who fell in love with this song.

9.  Say You Love Me - Jessie Ware

Co-written with Ed Sheeran , Say You Love Me deserved the same sort of adulation as Sheeran's above track has gotten. Another simple acoustic strum coupled with Ware's silky smooth vocals and hearfelt delivery made it one of the years most beautiful songs.

8.  Stay With Me - Sam Smith

One of the years biggest anthems , this was the track that saw Smith conquer America as well as millions of hearts. A tale of a one night stand never sounded so stunning or soaring.

7. Boom Clap - Charli XCX

Her True Romance album was commercially ignored but in 2014 , Brit pop sensation Charli XCX was a mainstay on the airwaves , what with her massive Iggy Azalea collaboration Fancy and this ubiquitous pop anthem.

6.  Drunk In Love - Beyoncé feat Jay Z

This would prove to be the only real hit from her self titled surprise album. But oh what a hit it was. Surfboards , waking up in the kitchen , Jay Z's rap. It was Bey's best track in years

5.  Ghost -Ella Henderson

Henderson stormed the charts with one of the pop anthems of the year. The best  X Factor alumni track since Leona Lewis ' Bleeding Love.
It was the biggest selling song of the summer and ushered in the rival of a different kind of talent show finalist

4. Only Love Can Hurt Like This - Paloma Faith

Paloma Faith became somewhat of a national treasure this year and after success with her previous two albums, It was her third album A Perfect Contradiction , that would see her finally ascend to British pop royalty.
Penned by the legendary Diane Warren , Only Love Can Hurt Like This , became Faith's biggest hit

3. Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson feat Bruno Mars

The most recent addition to the list , Mark Ronson made quite the comeback with the storming Uptown Funk, Aided and abetted by Bruno Mars , this track looks set to reach Get Lucky/Happy levels of chart and pop culture dominance.

2. Take Me To Church -Hozier

Irish singer/songwriter Andrew Hozier-Byrne had taken this track chronicling how love can be undermined by religion truly global in 2014.
It broke America where he reached Number 2 and earned himself a Song of the Year , Grsmmy nomination. The song connected and left an indelible mark on the musical landscape this year, after previously breaking Irish airplay records. Hozier took us all to church and his congregation ate it up.

1.  Chandelier -Sia

'I'm gonna swing from the chandelier , from the chandelier , I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist , like it doesn't exist ,'

Was there a more memorable pop chorus in 2014 than the mighty Chandelier. The Aussie singer who had penned the likes of Diamonds for Rihanna , now had a worldwide smash under her own name. The song was huge , its chorus humongous. The acompanying video was one of the years best. The song itself , easily the best  of 2014

THE TOP 20 ALBUMS OF 2014

As 2014 draws slowly to a close , its time to look back and reflect on some of the musical highs of the year. Next week , I'll be publishing The Playlist's 101 Greatest Songs of 2014.
But for now , we count down our 20 favourite albums of the years. It's been a vintage year for albums and this list celebrates everything from an elusive chanteuse to an Irish troubabdour , from a globe conquering pop queen to a Leicester rock band.

Here as follows are The Playlist's Top 20 Albums of 2014

20. Mariah Carey -ME..I AM MARIAH. THE EUSIVE CHANTEUSE

2014 hasn't been the year Mariah Carey had been anticipating. She separated from husband Nick Cannon amid rumours he had cheated on her , then there was last week's much mocked performance of her festive classic All I Want For Christmas Is You. Not to mention that the album listed here was a commercial flop.
Indeed , the only elusive thing about Mimi in 2014 was album sales. Putting all that aside , this was easily Mariah's best album in over a decade. In fact , if it had been released 10 years ago , it would have been huge. This is not to say that the album sounds dated. Quite the opposite. Tracks such as Money , Meteorite , You Don't Know What To Do and Faded should have seen her compete with Ariana et al.
Alas it was not to be. Mariah's lack of promotion didn't help either. But Mariah sounded as current as any diva on an album that should have churned out more hits than the one unequivocal miss its become.

Key Track: Meteorite

19.  Kylie Minogue -KISS ME ONCE

Like Mariah , Kylie found it hard to compete with the younger pop pack even with a solid offering. This was Kylie's first album in 4 years and she could still turn up the sass on tracks like Feels So Good and the mighty Sexercize.
The album misfired and fell short of usual expectations for a Kylie album. But people were to quick to look past the many gems within the album. The Enrique duet aside , it was a classy pop album that on repeated listen was better than the sum of its parts.

Key Track: Kiss Me Once

18. Kasabian - 48:13

The Leicester rock giants fifth album was a swaggering rock behemoth that more than merited their triumphant Glastonbury headliner status.
It was hedonistic and in your face , as wildly thrilling as Kasabian have always been.

Key Track: Eez-Eh

17/ Lykke Li -I NEVER LEARN

The Swedish singer delivered a heartbreak album in stunning fashion this year. It was honest , raw and vulnerable and binded by Li's superb vocals.
Heartbreak in 2014 had never sounded so compelling or life affirming

Key Track: Never Gonna Love Again

16. Foxes - GLORIOUS

Having made her name on Zedd's huge track Clarity , expectations were high for Foxes debut effort. But the Southampton singer/songwriter more than held her won with a record that was somewhere between Florence and the Machine and Ellie Goulding. It might not have hit those highs commercially , but the album lived up to its title. No more on the ever brilliant Youth and the ebullient Let Go For Tonight

Key Track: Youth

15. Sia - 10,000 FORMS OF FEAR

Having penned some of the biggest tracks of the past few years for the likes of Rihanna , Aussie songwriter of choice Sia Furler finally got round to releasing her sixth studio album. Helmed by the spectacular Chandelier , all signs were of one of the pop albums of the year.
Dark in places , it was as accessible as Sia had ever sounded. She soared on tracks like Hostage , Big Girls Cry and the anthemic Fire Meet Gasoline.
It was good to know that despite  giving away some modern classics to other artists , Sia had held a few back for herself

Key Track: Chandelier

14.  Ella Henderson -CHAPTER ONE

She ay have finshed sixth on The X Factor in 2012, but Henderson had the last laugh with a  debut album that belied her young years. In fact , it may well be the best album ever released from an X Factor finalist.
Ghost was one of the soaring sounds of the summer , one of the definitive pop songs of the year. Ella mixed mature pop such as Mirror Man with bouncy pop like Pieces and Giants.
The ballads too were sublime , with Yours and Lay Down , as frail and tender as someone much older than her could hope to produce. America now looks set to fall under her spell in 2015

Key Track: Empire

13.  Jessie Ware -TOUGH LOVE

The Brit songstress delivered a more accessible and melodic follow up to 2011's Devotion. Ware's blend of late night pop and soul was irresistible. There was the acoustic beauty of Say You Love Me and the sensual flair of Cruel. A stunning record that showcased a new breed of British songstress

Key Track: Cruel

12. Lana Del Rey -ULTRAVIOLENCE

Produced by The Black Keys ' Dan Auserbach , UltaViolence was a superb mix of sexuality and melancholy. Of the sort , that only Del Rey can really pull off. Her voice was more confident than ever and the album more cohesive than Born To Die.

Key Track: Brooklyn Baby

11, Pharrell Williams -GIRL

Happy was the biggest and most ubiquitous song of 2014. so much so , that it felt like it overshadowed everything else on Williams vibrant second solo album. Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus were among the guests on an album that was more than just 'that song '

Key track: Gust Of Wind

10. Katy B -LITTLE RED

Katy B scored a Number 1 album with Little Red in March. And deservedly so. The confidence and progression from her debut On A Mission was massive. The synth covered ballad Crying For no Reason showcasing her often underrated vocal abilities. It also showed that club heavy tracks and nightlife ballads could pack an emotional punch

Key Track: Aaliyah

9. Coldplay -GHOST STORIES

Chris Martin and co.'s sixth studio album harked back to their debut Parahutes in places. It was a low key record , a comedown from the neon pop that made up most of 2011's Mylo Xyloto.
Dealing with Martin's split from Gwyneth Paltrow , the 9 track set was as emotionally wwriught and raw as Coldplay have ever been. Aside from A Sky Full Of Stars , there are no big anthemics this time around. Yet Ghost Stories remained a satisfying if melancholic gem

Key Track: Midnight

8. Hozier -HOZIER

Irish singer.songwriter Andrew Hozier-Byrne went global in 2014 as he took us all to church, Channelling the soul of Van Morrison and the folky tenderness of Jeff Buckley , Hozier's star went stellar this year

Key Track: Take Me To Church

7. Paloma Faith -A PERFECT CONTRADICTION

Faith's third studio album finally put the flamboyant Cockney soul singer into the pop ascendancy. A Perfect Contradiction was the prefect blend of Motown swag , heartbreak soul and enough pop nuance , to see her hit new heights musically and commercially.

Key Track: Only Love Can Hurt Like This

6.  George Ezra -WANTED ON VOYAGE

Ezra's breezy , everyman folk pop was hard to miss this year.  Budapest was one of the sounds of the summer. His Voyage is a glorious , giddy , sometimes brooding journey that made him stand out as one of the best new artists of the year

Key Track: Leaving It Up To You

5. Sam Smith -IN THE LONELY HOUR

Smith's tales of unrequited love went truly global in 2014. His voice and songwriting soared and translated to millions of album sales.
Stay With Me was one of the tracks of the year. Smiths voice as irresistible as it was vulnerable on the likes of Leave Your Lover and Lay Me Down.

Key Track: Stay With Me

4,  You+Me -ROSE AVE

What was little more than a side project for global pop icon Pink and friend City and Colour's Dallas Green, was a beautifully crafted folk record.
Pink , using her real name of Alecia Moore , took the reins off vocally. That raspy , soaring vocal as glorious as ever on an album that was one of the years quiet gems

Key Track: Break the Cycle

3. Ed Sheeran -X

As huge as Sheeran's 2011 debut + was , it was on this sophomore record , that Sheeran truly became an unlikely if deserving global superstar. Lyrically as honest as ever on the beautiful Affire Love and the biting Don't , Sheeran connected to millions,
Veering from urban pop like Sing to lighters aloft , heart on your sleeve anthems like Thinking Out Loud , X was a triumph.

Key Track: Thinking Out Loud

2. Beyoncé -BEYONCE

It may have been a clever gimmick for Beyoncé to drop a surprise album on an unsuspecting world, But there was no denying that 10 years into her solo career , Mrs Carter had delivered her magnum opus.
It was darker , more ambitious , more ferocious , more sensual and more honest than the superstar had ever been.
From surfboards to the pain of vanity and waking up like this , Beyoncé had never sounded better.

Key Track: Flawless

1. Taylor Swift -1989

On her first official pop album , Swift redefined the genre and made a bold stride to becoming the new Princess of Pop. The album is an embarrassment of riches with contagious hooks and choruses designed to stay in your head for days. Pop had never sounded more glorious and was never bettered this year.

Key Track: Style
