Adele to headline Glastonbury

Adele will headline the Pyramid Stage on the Saturday night of this years Glastonbury. The singer made the announcement last night during another sold out show in London.
She joins previously announced headliners Coldplay and Muse.

The singer said she had kept it a secret for years. It will be the record breaking Tottenham singers biggest live performance to date. With the current rave reviews for her ongoing arena tour , theres no doubt Adele will light up the Pyramid Stage with what should be a mass singalong.
The star had claimed before , that she would never play a festival due to stage fright. She had watched Kanye West headline last year in person and was overwhelmed by it.

The news has been met with a positive response. Of course , there are the usual protests from those decrying Glastonburys lack of edge. And some have said , the festival has played it too safe.

But those who dismiss Adele as headliner , do the singer a disservice. This is Britains biggest festival. She is Britain and indeed , the world's biggest artist right now. She couldn't be a more timely and deserving headliner. Her latest album 25 has sold 19 million copies in just 4 months. Her fanbase is expansive.
I have no doubt BBC Two will garner  their highest ever ratings for a Saturday night headline shot. Her back catalogue of hits and beloved album tracks is phenomenal.

Why not Adele ? Jay Z headlined despite mass criticism and delivered a stellar performance. Kanye headlined last year and it was an utter shambles. Self indulgent and ultimately boring. Glastonbury may be the ultimate rock festival , but its heady days are long behind it. It's as corporate and commercial as the V Festival.
And whats wrong with that ? There are a multitude of stages , villages , parks and more at Glastonbury. You don't want to watch her , then go ramble around the huge site.

Adele will put more eyes on the festival this year. Her performance will also be the mostly eagerly anticpated.
Her voice in unison with thousands of muddy or sunburned revellers singing along to Hello , Someone Like You and Chasing Pavements will be an incredible , goosebump inducing sight.

And if its playing safe , then you need to look at the stagnant state of rock music. Who could possibly have played.
Stone Roses would be perfect but they've already been booked for T in the Park. Arctic Monkeys , Kings of Leon and even this years headliners Coldplay have already been there and done that.
Up and coming new British rock acts like Wolf Alice and Royal Blood are not  ready. Ed Sheeran would garner a similar disdain to that of Adele. As would someone like Madonna even.

Adele is the right artist at the right time for Glastonbury. I have no doubt , she will deliver one of the most memorable Saturday nights on the Pyramid Stage in recent memory.
