Beyonce steals show at the MTV VMAs







Beyoncé stole the show at last nights MTV Video Music Awards in New York's celebrated Madison Square Garden.
The icon scooped a stunning 8 awards including the prestigious Video Of The Year for the politically impassioned Formation.

Beyoncé also picked up gongs ina host of technical categories for choreography , cimematography and breakthrough long form video. As well as picking up Best Female and Best Pop Video.  Last night's impressive haul takes Beyoncé's total number of VMA wins to 24 , beating Madonna into second place. Those wins have been secured over a 15 year period , dating back to her first moonman win with Destinys Child.

Beyoncé also delivered the performance of the night with a medley of songs from her groundbreaking visual album Lemonade. She performed Pray You'll Catch Me , Hold Up , Don't Hurt Yourself and Sorry , during a frenetic 15 minute set.

The singer turned up on the red carpet , alongside daughter Blue Ivy.She also brought along the  mothers of slain black youngsters killed in the US , whom all appeared in the award winning Formation video.





Rihanna was the nights other big winner scooping the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for her contribution to music video over the last decade. She was presented with the award by Canadian rapper Drake. The Bajan beauty performed four of her biggest hits throughout the course of the show.



Britney Spears returned to the VMA stage for the first time since a disastrous performance in 2007. The pop legend has made her name with a string of iconic , show stopping performances at the ceremony. Who can forget 2001's python clad performance of I'm A Slave 4 U and her steamy kiss with Madonna in 2003.
She teamed up with rapper G-Eazy to sing her latest hit Make Me , from her new album Glory out this week.



Ariana Grande paired up with Nicki Minaj for the first performance of her brand new single Side to Side. Its the fourth single to be lifted from current album Dangerous Woman.

The other notable winners on the night included Scottish DJ Calvin Harris who walked away with two gongs. Drake , Twenty One Pilots , Fifth Harmony and DNCE were also celebrating picking up moon men.
